It looks like an already-busy October will end strong with a variety of fall or Halloween events for this last week. Here's a look at what's coming up.

"Kern County Unknown": Check out the premiere of Bakersfield’s new true-crime and paranormal documentary series on Friday at The Empty Space.

This evening starts with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., followed by an Q&A session with the "Unknown" creative team, which includes Robert Petersen, host of the "Notorious Bakersfield" podcast.

The screening begins at 7:30 p.m. with the series' first episode.

"Kern County Unknown" consists of six episodes delving into "the spine-chilling true crime and paranormal mysteries of Bakersfield."

The event will run until 9 p.m. at the theater, 5417 Woodmere Drive.

Epic Halloween Party: Bakersfield Live Music will host an event on Thursday expected to live up to its title with live music and DJs, sideshow and magic acts, a psychic, mechanical bull and more.

Foster Campbell & Friends is set to perform with additional music from special guests DJ Kyle and DJ SK.

Guests will be able to watch George the Giant in action as the 7-foot-3-inch-tall performer swallows swords and breathes fire as part of his act.

Magician Ron Saylor, winner of the Merlin award who is a frequent performer at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles, will provide close-up magic.

Local psychic Madame Nicole will look into attendees' futures with palm and tarot card readings. Readings are $25 for non-VIP guests.

This event will also include casino tables (with funny money to gamble), photo booths, body painting, a mechanical bull, costume contest and more.

There will also be a raffle with items including a Rolling Stones electric guitar, Taylor Swift concert photo display, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" movie poster, photo of Ronald Reagan, Caitlin Clark NCAA record holder photo display, Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman fight poster, Kobe Bryant NBA floorboard display, Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey, Oakland Raiders legends helmet and Muhammad Ali boxing glove.

Doors open at 8 p.m. Thursday at A Royal Palace Reception & Banquet Hall, 6700 District Blvd.

There are four tiers for tickets. General admission ($45) includes $500 in funny money to gamble.

Silver Label VIP ($500 per table) accommodates eight guests with $1,000 in funny money, treat bags and eight tickets for Madame Nicole.

For Black Label VIP ($1,200 per table), eight guests will receive $1.500 in funny money, exclusive treat bags, food truck vouchers, two bottles of wine, custom wine glasses, a dozen printed cookies from Nana’s Custom Cookies, eight tickets for Madame Nicole and one reserved parking space

There are only two Platinum Label VIP offers ($2,500 per table), which accommodate up to 10 guests with a private 10-by-10-foot space with couch, dedicated server (for beer and wine), custom wine glasses, four bottles of top shelf liquor of your choice from provided list, endless charcuterie board (from selected items), endless snacks (popcorn, pretzels and chips), two dozen printed cookies from Nana’s, 10 tickets for Madame Nicole, $1.500 in funny money, exclusive treat bags, food truck vouchers, exclusive wristbands and two reserved parking spaces.

Proceeds from this event will aid the Bridal Association of Kern County, a nonprofit that provides grants for local event professionals facing hardships to help cover living expenses.

Bako Haunted Trails x Frightfest/Halloween Town: The E Bako Night Market is hosting the haunt as well as a family-friendly event on Oct. 25 to 27 and Halloween night.

The haunted trails will offer a "night of scares, screams and thrills" with a team of scare experts.

Guests can explore the Clown Creepy Funhouse — "where terror and chaos awaits at every turn!" — or the Haunted Scarecrow Maze, filled with scarecrows that move and stalk you through the experience.

Each maze is $17.85 or take on both for $28.52. The VIP double terror maze pass ($39.19) offers fast track access to both mazes.

Those feeling a bit trepidatious can purchase the safe access pass ($12.51) available from 6 to 7 p.m. offering a walk-through in remaining daylight before the scare actors set up.

Guests can also purchase fear-free glow necklaces ($8.24), which let scare actors know to give you space during the experience.

The mazes operate from 7 to 10 p.m. on designated days at 6328 E. Brundage Lane.

Halloween Town offers more all-ages fun with a petting zoo ($3), unicorn photo ops ($5) and horse rides with Healing Hearts Horse Therapy ($10). It will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 25, 26 and 27.

The Bako Safe Trick or Treat Market, which will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., will include something for everyone: kids' crafts, games, tractor races, petting zoo, raffles and more.

Boos & Brews: Beer Billy's is hosting an afternoon of brews, costumed fun and live music on Saturday.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their Halloween finest. There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place.

Food will be available for purchase starting at 6 p.m.

The band Penny Marie Locked & Loaded will play from 7 to 9 p.m.

Extended Stay at Harrington House: The restaurant and bar will host an evening pop-up with Bakersfield Beverage Co.

Guests can pick their poison from a themed cocktail menu and enjoy music from a DJ.

The 21-and-over event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at 11313 Stockdale Highway #400.

All-ages fun

Trick or Treat at The Cottages: Prepare for a one-stop pop-up for a day of community engagement. The Cottages across from Mechanics Bank Arena will host a variety of activities on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Photographer Ally Swen will be on hand to shoot photos of children (or adults) in their Halloween costumes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are not needed as the photo shoot is first come, first served. The cost is $13 for one photo or four for $50.

Jeran McConnel of Oleander + Palm will host children's craft sessions for ages 4 to 11. Create three spooky crafts and get a goody bag to take home. The cost is $13, with space still open in the 11 a.m. slot. (Sign up at oleander-palm.myshopify.com/products/halloween-craft-event.)

Costumed children can also visit the businesses, including Number 46, to receive candy.

Britny Boos of BNB Creative Co. will have canvas "Bag of Treats" bags for sale that she can personalize with her chainstitch machine.

Artist Bunny Dee will have her cat-themed art available in stickers, prints, buttons and more.

McFarland Trunk or Treat: On Saturday, the McFarland Police Department will hold its annual safe and fun Halloween celebration for families at Kern Avenue School.

Children can collect treats from decorated vehicle trunks in a safe environment. Hundreds of pounds of candy is expected to be distributed, "ensuring every little ghost and goblin leaves with a bag full of goodies."

Participants are encouraged to come in costume and take part in the costume contest, which will include awards for best looks in various categories.

Other activities include games, face painting and a chance for attendees to meet and greet McFarland officers, who will engage with the community and share safety tips for a fun Halloween season.

Trunk or Treat will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the school, 356 W Kern Ave. in McFarland.

Trick Or Treat with Kern County Animal Services: In this first-ever event, the Fruitvale Avenue shelter will host an hourlong event with fun for two- and four-legged attendees.

Shelter pets will be dressed in Halloween costumes and staff will hand out dog and cat treats for visitors to offer to the animals.

There will also be special (nonedible) treats for children who participate! Wearing a Halloween costume is encouraged but not required. And of course, the shelter will be open as usual for meet & greets, adoptions, fostering, rescue, and our usual services. Our shelter pets would love to see you!

The event will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at 3951 Fruitvale Ave.

This week KCAS was in search of costumes for large dogs, which were not as plentiful as its supply of small dog looks. Donations of large dog costumes can be dropped off at the shelter from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through Wednesday (the shelter is closed on Sunday).

Trick or Treat at Outlets: Starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, the Outlets at Tejon (5701 Outlets at Tejon Parkway in Arvin) will host stations handing out treats to children in costume throughout the shopping center.

The event continues while supplies last.

Haggin Oaks farmers market: Enjoy some spooktacular festivities at the market this Sunday.

Expect costumes all around as well as some treats for the kids. Some vendors will also dress up their booths to compete in a people's choice contest.

The market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 8800 Ming Ave.

Pet photo event: Tractor Supply Co. will have a photographer on hand Saturday to photograph pets.

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., customers can bring in their four-legged family members, with or without costume, to have their photos taken by a local photographer.

The first 25 participants will also receive a free magnetic picture frame.

Rummage Sale: Looking for a last-minute costume and ready to help a good cause? Then head out to The Empty Space for its fundraiser.

Those crazy theater kids will have costumes, props and set pieces to help you set the Halloween or other themed scene. Many of the items come from past productions so run through the theater's calendar to see what might be in store.

Also for sale are scripts, traditional housewares, clothing, children's items and more.

Food and beverages will be sold throughout the day and the first 25 guests will receive a free cup of coffee.

Funds raised by the event will go toward additional upgrades to the theater.

Mexicali costume contest: The downtown restaurant will keep up its annual tradition featuring staff dressed up for the holiday.

Diners can vote for their favorite costume and enjoy "brews and potions for adults and kids."

The fun begins at 5 p.m. Friday at the restaurant, 631 18th St.
